Then, they were the first generation born HIV+. Now, they are the generation that has lead us to where we are now in the fight against HIV/AIDS and are poised to move us into the future. Bill Kubicek shares a career that has followed this group from when they were babies into adulthood.
Bill Kubicek is the founder and Executive Director of Next Step, a nonprofit organization that provides community, music and mentorship for teens and young adults living with HIV, cancer and rare genetic disorders as they transition into adulthood.
It was a conversation between Bill and the late actor, philanthropist, and race car driver Paul Newman that spurred the creation of Next Step. For nearly three decades, Bill has been an industry leader in program development and implementation for children, teens and young adults struggling with serious illness. Bill created a unique youth-led model based on his experiences working with thousands of seriously ill young people since 2001.
Next Step has delivered this distinctive programming at sites across the U.S. and in Africa. Bill has served on advisory boards for the Young Adult Cancer Alliance, The National Center on Healthcare Transition and other notable organizations.
