3S Artspace to continue as event partner & audition host
April 6, 2018, Portsmouth, NH // TEDxPiscataquaRiver organizers announced today that, in order to better fulfill their mission, they will be holding Portsmouth’s 6th annual TEDx event at the Music Hall Historic Theater, tripling capacity for attendees. They are grateful to be continuing their partnership with longtime TEDxPiscataquaRiver partner 3S Artspace, which will be the venue host for brainstorm sessions, speaker and performer auditions and other related TEDx events.
In 2017, tickets for TEDxPiscataquaRiver went on sale on August 21st and sold out in under two hours. The biggest piece of feedback that the event organizers have received consistently over the years is that numerous people want to attend the event but were unable to get a ticket due to the limited capacity.
TEDx organizers and venue hosts, 3S Artspace and the Music Hall, discussed the capacity issue openly and came up with a solution. 3S will retain their status as a true event partner, hosting pre-and post-events including speaker and performer auditions, meetings and perhaps some new surprises. The actual day of the event will be held at the Music Hall, a long-time event partner. Tickets will go on sale through The Music Hall later this summer.
3S Artspace seats 200 people and has hosted the event for the past four out of five years. The Music Hall has over 800 seats, and TEDxPiscataquaRiver organizers are capping attendance for this year’s event at 650. This more than triples capacity for attendees, providing more people the opportunity to attend the event. TEDxPiscataquaRiver organizers and partners felt they wanted to do a better job of inclusion, to better fulfill their mission of spreading great ideas in the community. They worked to find a way to offer the full-day TEDx experience to more Portsmouth community members, students, and leaders in decision-making roles in our community.
Every year TEDxPiscataquaRiver has provided a free online live stream event and has posted the talks on TEDx’s YouTube channel so that those who could not attend could still watch it. Due to TED rules, TEDxPiscataquaRiver was only able to invite 100 attendees for the first three years. After TEDx licensee Crystal Paradis traveled to Geneva in 2015 for official TEDx training from TED, the event capacity was raised to that of the venue where the event was held. 3S Artspace seated capacity is 200, which was the number of seats available for the 2016 and 2017 events, both of which sold out in a number of hours (2017 tickets were gone in under 2 hours). TEDxPiscataquaRiver organizers are thrilled to offer more seats than ever before for Portsmouth’s 6th annual TEDx event. Having a seat at the table starts with having a seat.
The 2018 event will be on Friday, September 7, 2018. This year’s theme will be announced soon. Co-curators Crystal Paradis and Anna Goldsmith will be attending a global TEDx training this month. The second annual TEDFest will be held April 10-14, 2018, at St. Anne’s Warehouse in Brooklyn, NY where they will be learning alongside TEDx organizers from all over the world.
In the meantime, TEDxPiscataquaRiver lovers, you may apply online to be a speaker.

About TEDxPiscataquaRiver
TEDxPiscataquaRiver is a community-organized event where big ideas and challenges that affect our community are openly discussed. Our mission is to spark conversation and ignite positive community action by bringing together community representatives and showcasing new ideas from local, regional and national voices across diverse disciplines and backgrounds.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TED Talks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).
