TEDxPortsmouth has always believed that big ideas have the power to change the world. But what happens after the talk? This year, we’re finding out.
We’re excited to introduce a brand new TEDxPortsmouth feature: Ideas in Action. Each year, we’ll spotlight a past speaker who turned their talk into action in their own powerful way.
This year’s honoree is Jennifer Moore! In her 2023 talk, The Future of Fashion is Secondhand, Jennifer spoke about the environmental impact of fast fashion and the growing economic opportunity in resale.
Her idea was simple: when we change how we buy, sell, and reuse everyday items, we reduce waste, save money, create opportunities for small businesses and nonprofits, and strengthen our communities in the process.
Since her talk, Jennifer has continued to advocate for sustainability in her community. In 2024, she received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the UNH Sustainability Institute in recognition of her work.
At this year’s TEDxPortsmouth, Jennifer will bring that idea to life with an entirely secondhand, live runway show featuring looks styled by local businesses and nonprofits, using fashion to spark a broader conversation about reuse and how our region can lead the way in building a more sustainable future.
